TOGETHER WE CONQUER AUTUMN

D&AD: JOHN LEWIS WINDOW DISPLAY

The brief was to design a window display for the John Lewis flagship store on Oxford Street to represent Autumn. As a display, it's there to communicate a story, and what I wanted to address is families coming together and exploring the outdoors. As a child I collected conkers with my family around Autumn and felt like I could show this story through the display, I always remember my dad drilling holes into each conker and placing them onto a string. Me and my brother would then battle it out, hitting the conkers together to see how had the best ones.

I considered the fact that John Lewis is a well known British brand and thought of what family activities can do during a British Autumn. The idea is that the family is coming together, holding the large shoelace with the giant conker on the end, representing the classic game you can play with conkers. I had in mind that the giant conker could be made from all the brown and white/cream coloured products that can be bought from within the store. I also thought that the string and Chestnut tree leaves could be made up of John Lewis curtains or bed sheets.
